Golfing Holidays
Our aim is to provide a personal service and tailor made package to suit your Golfing requirements, therefore helping to ensure that as our guests you have a relaxing holiday from the minute you arrive. Before booking any Golf, speak to Neil who has lots of personal experience of golfing on the Costa del Sol. He can give you details of any of the 50 plus Golf Courses available in the area.
Golfing Tournaments, Trophies and Special Presentation BBQ´s can all be pre-arranged just to add that something special to your holiday and make it one to remember.
Please note it is very important to bring your handycap card, as the majority of courses locally will not allow you to play without this, and often soft spikes too.
A selection of the courses available in the area, that Neil has played or reviewed are shown below. All of these courses and buggy hire can be arranged at your request.
Torrequebrada
Torrequebrada Golf Course was the chosen venue for the 1979 Spanish Open. It offers excellent facilities including a driving range, tennis, squash and a large pool. The clubhouse has a restaurant bar as well as a well stocked pro-shop.
Torrequebrada has lakes, mature semi-tropical vegetation and a curious Par -3-third clifftop 79 meter plunge.
The course was designed by “The Picasso of Golf” Pepe Gancedo. It is a must for any golfer when visiting the Costa Del Sol.
Benalmádena
Benalmadena Golf Course, Benalmadena Pueblo was recently opened in September 2005.
Cabopino
This course has spectacular views of the sea and beautiful vegetation. The greens are large and some have platforms, the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th holes with lakes are especially beautiful.
Cabopino is rapidly becoming one of the most popular courses in the area. The course is described as ‘short but sweet’ and offers three Par -3’s, two Par-5’s and thirteen Par-4’s.
Excellent facilities are on offer including a gym, jacuzzi, restaurant and club house.
La Cala
The shorter South Course requires precision and accuracy is rewarded more than distance. The fairways are wide and the greens are large. Thick rough awaits stray drives. The 10th is a most difficult Par 5 and at the 11th the tee shot has to pass over a deep ravine. At the 12th there is a lake positioned in front of the green.
The North Course is known as eagle country characterised by varying tee positions and wide fairways, a long drive is a definite advantage. There are large bunkers, rolling fairways and guarded greens. In particular the scenery at the 16th is spectacular, this may be a short Par 3 but accuracy is needed especially if there is a wind blowing. This course is now where the son of Ossie Ardiles (ex Spurs and Argentina) and Alan Ball have set up a football academy.
Facilities include squash and tennis courts, indoor/outdoor pools, saunas, gym, restaurant and a well stocked pro shop. La Cala is home to the David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
Alhaurin Golf
Alhaurin Golf is located in the mountains half way between Mijas and Coin. There is a full length 18 hole course Par-70, designed by Seve Ballesteros, a short 18 hole course for juniors and a further 9 hole par 3 course. It has a magnificent setting with beautiful views. This course requires accuracy or a bag of balls.
Facilities: Buggy hire included in green fee • Clubs hire • Handcart rental • Driving Range • Clubhouse.
Guadalhorce Malaga
The first nine holes are European style with rolling terrain and tricky greens, especially the long 4th. The last nine holes are more American style with tropical vegetation, lakes and raised greens. Many of the greens are large and some are shared between two holes.
Facilities: Buggy hire • Clubs hire • Hand cart rental • Driving Range • Clubhouse.
Mijas
This is the busiest golf complex in Spain. There are two 18 hole courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos. Water is a great feature on the first nine holes. There is plenty of variety and wide fairways, plenty of trees and very little rough.
Facilities: Buggy hire • Clubs hire • Hand cart rental • Driving Range • Clubhouse.
Parador Malaga
The Costa’s oldest course is part parkland and seawater lagoons, with fairways forming avenues between trees that are home to flocks of parakeets. The Turespaña Masters Open de España was held here in 1992 and 1999. The course is 6,204 metres in length and is suitable for all standards of players. Although some holes do present a challenge for example the 12th needs a perfect drive in order to reach the green in two and miss the eucalyptus grove on the right. This course was built at the turn of the 20th century by the Royal Surgeons who looked after Queen Victoria.
Facilities: Buggy hire • Clubs hire • Hand cart rental • Driving Range • Clubhouse
Valderama Sotogrande
This is Europe’s No. 1 course and host of the Ryder Cup1997 and nine Volvo Masters. The first hole seems straightforward but the green is hidden amongst the trees to the right and further away than you think with a right-hand bunker. Valderama is limited to Club members and 36 visiting golfers per day. This course is an irresistible challenge.
