The Immediate Local Area...
The Villa is part of a Spanish urbanization, and is ideally situated far enough away from the local bars, hotels and nightlife to be a very peaceful spot. It is a 15-minute walk to the beach and within 8-minutes walking distance you will find an English speaking Pharmacy, a very friendly Dutch bar and a busy Spanish cafe/restaurant. Just down the hill is the prestigious 'Torrequebrada Casino Hotel' with it's wonderful Bars, restaurant and very popular evening show. There is a SuperCor supermarket directly at the bottom of the hill, just 1 5-minute walk. The main line bus stop is also at the bottom of the hill, with the quiet beach just over the road. The main seafront of Benalmadena Costa with its clean beaches, souvenir shops and wide choice of English and Spanish bars and restaurants is a short walk away, though it is a steep hill back up and the end of a long day on the beach! Taxi ranks are widespread, and from the main seafront should be no more than 4-6 euros.
Once on the main seafront, the promenade leads all the way to the marina, voted 'Best Marina' 3 years running, well worth a trip to see its fantastic architecture and maybe eat at one of the many restaurants overlooking the boats. It also has many boutiques, and a very good Sealife Centre. A short bus ride will take you into our local village of Arroyo De La Miel, which has the main train station, the cable car up the mountain, and Tivoli World. Arroyo itself is a mix of old and new, with many shops, restaurants and a wonderful Market on Friday Mornings. The cable car ride to the top of Mount Calmorro (600mts high) is a treat, not only are the views from the top stunning, but there is a fantastic free bird show and regular horse training shows, and free donkey rides for the children. Tivoli World is a hit with children from toddlers to teens, with separate areas for the different ages. As well as the many rides, and of course a wide range of eating places, there are regular shows, mostly free for the younger guests and in the summer months they have wonderful flamenco dancers to entertain you whilst having a cooling drink.
Paloma Park is on the hill between the coast and Arroyo, and is a must on a lovely day. It is exactly as a park should be. It is clean of any dog muck, with a variety of animals roaming free, ducks, chickens, rabbits and peacocks, as well as those fenced in, emus, goats and deer. There are 3 different cafes, and 2 children's play areas. The park is large, and is popular with all ages for picnicking, strolling or games of frisbee and the like. Check out the pelicans and terrapins in the big pond!
